The Cemetery Club
Company Theatre presents a hilarious but bittersweet comedy about the challenges faced by women over sixty as they try to put the past behind them and move into uncharted territory.
Lucille and Doris are part of a unique club. Every month they meet at Ida's New York house for tea, then trundle off together to the cemetery to remember the good times and gossip with their late husbands. Until, "“We can’t go on like this forever, living in the past. I feel like I’m in a cemetery club,” and when Sam, a butcher, meets the widows while he is visiting his wife's grave, he changes their lives forever. This touching play about three feuding Jewish women is funny, wise and gloriously witty, sometimes remembered by the 1993 film starring Olympia Dukakis, Diane Ladd and Ellen Burstyn.
