Oscar Wilde's brilliantly witty comedy 'The Importance of Being Earnest' comes to the stage in Auckland this summer! Exactly 117 years after the play's premier, young director Andrew Parker leads an all under-25 cast in a fresh take on the hilarious classic.
 
What's in a name? Quite a lot, it seems, when the name is Ernest. Rakish Jack and his debt-avoiding friend Algernon discover the alluring power of that moniker when it comes to their respective lady loves, Gwendolen and Cecily. Hilarity, handbags and cucumber sandwiches ensue!

Everyone has heard of and watched Fawlty Towers. the hilarious TV comedy series from the 1970's. The setting was the fictional and utterly chaotic hotel Fawlty Towers in the seaside town of Torquay on the ‘English Riviera’ run by the maniacal and neurotic Basil Fawlty with a little help from his much smarter wife Sybil!

Company Theatre is staging three of the episodes – The Hotel Inspectors, Communication Problems and The Germans using the original scripts of this legendary TV series.

The Hotel Inspectors  - Basil is terrified by news that hotel inspectors are in the area – and well he might be! The awful probability occurs to him that the eccentric guest to whom he has been so appallingly offensive may be one of the officials. His ranting turns to a pathetic fawning but has he got the right man?

Communication Problems - It’s not a wise man who entrusts his furtive winnings on the horses to an absent-minded geriatric Major, but Basil was never known for that quality. Parting with those ill-gotten gains was Basil’s first mistake, his second was to tangle with the intermittently deaf Mrs Richards... who will crack first!?

The Germans - Sybil is in hospital for her ingrowing toe-nail. “Perhaps they’ll have it mounted for me”, mutters Basil as he tries to cope during her absence. The fire-drill ends in chaos with Basil knocked out by the moose’s head in the lobby. The deranged host then encounters the Germans and tells them the ‘truth’ about their Fatherland.

NYTC presents "ALLSTARS" School Holiday Programme

A  theatrical training programme for Ages 7 to 17

Dates: 17 to 21 April 2012 Tuesday to Saturday

Times: Tuesday to Friday 9am - 4pm, Saturday 1pm - 8pm

Fees: $219 per student

This hugely popular course is the perfect school holiday activity for theatre enthusiasts or beginners who want to have a go on the stage!

The course culminates in two performances of a special revue show for family and friends

Students will work with their tutors in acting, vocal/singing and dance classes held in age related small groups to ensure that everyone receives quality tuition and has fun! We have a high staff to student ratio and a registered nurse on sit at all time.
