BRASSED OFFCOMPANY THEATRE in conjunction with the NORTH SHORE BRASS BAND presents "BRASSED OFF" By Paul Allen from the screenplay by Mark Herman Directed by Kathy Gent Tue to Sat 7 to 21 Aug at 8pm, Sunday Matinees 8 & 15 Aug at 2pmTickets $25, Concessions (Seniors/Students) $20Bookings phone 445 9900 or email rosecentre@xtra.co.nz"Brassed Off" looks back in anger to 1994 when the Tories were enthusiastically shutting down coal-mines all over Britain in the belief that coal mining was no longer economically viable. "Brassed Off" celebrates a mining community's determination to keep its brass band blowing amidst a climate of redundancies, poverty and hardship. The play is funny, sad and thought-provoking. Danny the bandleader dying of lung-disease declares it is music that gives the Grimley people significance whilst Sandra his daughter-in-law takes off to her mother's when her husband Phil puts a new trombone before food on the table. So, should the band play on? Company Theatre presents this wonderfully moving play in conjunction with North Shore Brass Band
